Alora Information Alora is situated in the center of one of the most beautiful areas that Andalucia has to offer. Alora is at the top of the Guadalhorce valley which is inland from Malaga. The main part of the town is on top of a hill, with the church and cemetery above the town.
Alora Festivals Of all the festivals and celebrations in Alora, the most important is Easter. On Good Friday a ceremony takes place called "la Despedida", The Goodbye. There is also a flamenco singing festival. Find more out in our Alora festivals guide.
Alora Nature The municipality of Alora covers a wide area of Nature in Andalucia. One of the geographical wonders of Andalucia is the Garganta del Chorro, which is an immense chasm.
Alora Places Alora has many interesting places that is well worth a visit, buildings from the 17th century and roman ruins, and a very old moosrish castle. The town came under the domination of the Crown of Castille in 1484, when it was conquered by Ferdinand and Isabella.

Alora History Alora’s history goes back to prehistory in the Hoyo del Conde, (Count’s plain). The Romans left important marks on this land, from the milestone which showed the Roman road and on which the following inscription is written; Municipium Iluritanum (79 B.C.). Alora was a Roman town with Latin rights, with the name of Iluro.
